TSD Tennessee Studio offers classes for both children and adults of all ages and abilites. TSD Tennessee Studio teaches self-defense, weapons, Jiu-jitsu, and traditional Tang Soo Do.
Through teaching Korean martial arts in a traditional way, our students learn to have more self-confidence, respect, and discipline.
Tang Soo Do incorporates a large family from around the world. The techniques and forms of Tang Soo Do are taught in over thirty-two countries. Tang Soo Do also provides a way of growing healthier, happier, and wiser; just as it did over 2,000 years ago.

Grandmaster J. John St. James has been training for over 30 years. He is a 7th degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and serves as the President and Founding Master of the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do Federation headquartered just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Grandmaster St. James also serves as Co-Chair of the Asia Atlantic Alliance, an organization of like-minded traditional Tang Soo Do Federation and Association across the globe.
Grandmaster St. James began his martial arts and leadership training when he was 15 years old. He earned his Black Belt from Grandmaster Young Kook Kwon before graduation from high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was 18, he became certified as an instructor and started his teaching career under the tutelage of Grandmaster Young Kook Kwon in San Diego, California where he later started his first school whild attending the University of California. Grandmaster St. James attainded his Bachelors Degree in Political Science in 1984 and later a Graduate Degree in Insurance and Risk Management from the American Institute in 1986.
In addition to being and expert in Tang Soo Do, Grandmaster St. James is considered an expert in personal development and peak performance training. He has been featured in MA Success Magazine, MA Professional, Tae Kwon Do Time Magazine, EFC Eagle Express, Business Master Publication, and has also been recognized in Black Belt Magazine for coaching the current World Record Board Breaking Champion.
Grandmaster St. James holds a brown belt in Shotokan Karate (1975), a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do (1983), and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido (2003). He is well versed in advanced pressure point manipulation and is certified as an instructor in Quick Defense by the American Self Defense Association in Belton, Texas. He is also a past Board Member of the World Tang Soo Do Association where he served as both teh Director of Finance and Business and a Regional Director for amny years. Grandmaster St. James received his Masters rank and Senior Masters rank from Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin while a member of the World Tang Soo Do Association.
Grandmaster St. James is considered by his peers to be an expert in traditional Korean, Chinese, and Okinawan weaponry with an emphasis on the Bong or staff. He is well versed in the sword, cane, nunchaku, tonfa, short sticks, dagger, and spear to name just a few. He personally enjoys empty hand forms and the most and can often be heard telling his students that the foundation of all martial arts starts with a Black Belt Leader and Champions mindset. It is then demonstrated in all our actions and strengthend with a great command of the fundamental basics which can be learned by constantly practicing traditional hyung or froms.
Grandmaster St. James has also directly trained several World Champions and directed two first place World Competition Teams while with the WTSDA. He currently coaches a World record holder and has many competition wins and one Grand Championship under his belt. His true love is spreading Tang Soo Do by developing top quality instructors/school owners and helping them to learn, grow, and share our art.

Kid Tiger Program: Introduces very young children to the positive influences for the martial arts by stressing respect, self-discipline,coordination, good behavior, confidence, patience, concentration, responsibility, cooperation, better health, and growth with a sense of justice.
Basic Program: Students learn the fundamentals of blocking, striking, kicking, self-defense, and the history of martial arts.
Black Belt Club: Students learn advanced blocking, striking, and self-defense. These students will also begin training for sparring, and learning various weapons which include: Bo Staff and Escrima. These students all have access to one Jiu-Jitsu class each week and any Demo Teams in which our school participates.
Master Club: In addition to regular Tang Soo Do classes, students receive estra curriculum training from various styles of martial arts including: Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Boxing, and Hapkido. They also have the opportunity to train using weapons such as: nunchakus, knife, and the sword. Only students involved in this program have the option of being a part of the Instructor's Training Program and participating in open tournaments. These students also receive one estra class each week focused on advance training.
Jiu-Jitsu: Students will learn Ki Thai Jiu-Jitsu which incorporates both the throws of Judo and the ground manipulation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The teachniques students will learn include: throwing, grappling, holds, submissions, escapes, and ground control.
Our martial arts program helps sharpen focus, teaches effective self-defense, and develops confidence and self-esteem. Our nationally recognized, certified instructors teach these values in a safe, professional environment.
After School Program: Children are transported from their schools to TSD Tennessee Studio where they will have time to eat a snack and work on their homework with help from our staff. They will engage in one Tang Soo Do class daily and will be given the chance to earn belt ranks. Pick up time is 5:30 p.m.

Summer Camp: Children have the opportunity to engage in two martial arts classes a day. One class will be traditional Tang Soo Do, while the other class will be focused on our week theme. (ex. self-defense, weapons, etc.) Children will participate in one weekly field trip such as, Nashville Zoo, Chattanooga Aquarium, Barfield Parks, Manchester Recreational Center, etc. In addtion, children will take time each day while at our school to learn life skills that will help them become mature young people and able to make wise decision with their lives.
